Can't fill a PDF? Check AcroForm fields, scans and XFA
A PDF that looks like a form may have no input fields. VietPDF fills existing AcroForm text fields, checkboxes, dropdowns and radio groups. It does not create fields on scans, support XFA or bypass read-only fields. Identify the form type, work on a copy and reopen the saved result to check it.
Why can't I type on a visible blank line?
A line or square can be a drawing or part of a scanned image rather than an input field. Selectable text does not prove that a PDF contains an AcroForm either: a text layer and form fields are separate structures.
Adobe distinguishes interactive forms from flat forms without input fields. Open Fill PDF in VietPDF and select a copy to see the fields it can read. If no fields appear, compression or renaming the file will not create them.
Choose a route for the document type
For supported AcroForm fields, enter text or choose an existing option. Read-only fields and unsupported field types cannot be edited here. If the file uses XFA, VietPDF reports that it is unsupported; request an AcroForm version or use the application specified by the issuer.
A scan or flat form needs a tool that adds text to the page or creates form fields. VietPDF does not currently create these fields. OCR can extract text or add a searchable layer, but it does not turn lines into AcroForm inputs. Use PDF to Word only when the goal is editing a copy and the recipient accepts possible layout changes.
Try a Vietnamese name and a choice field
Use a non-sensitive sample with a name field, a checkbox and a dropdown or radio group. Ask the issuer for a blank fillable sample if necessary. The name below is practice data rather than a real submission.
- Open Fill PDF, select the sample copy and check the field labels.
- Enter Nguyễn Thị Ánh in a text field with enough room and a sufficient character limit.
- Toggle one checkbox and select an existing dropdown or radio option; do not invent an option outside its list.
- Process and download a new file. Keep the blank source separately.
Check the downloaded PDF, not just the input box
Reopen the result in another PDF reader where possible. Check every accent in Nguyễn Thị Ánh, look for tiny or clipped text and confirm the checkbox and selected option. Review all lines of multiline fields rather than only the first one.
VietPDF retains Unicode field values and creates an appearance for accented text when needed. Rendering and further editing can vary between readers, so check with the recipient's application when required. Do not remove accents from a name simply to hide a display problem.
Before adding a signature or processing further
For a signature image, transfer the filled result to Sign PDF in the same tab or download it and select it again. See the image-signature guide under Read next; this does not create a certificate-based digital signature.
Avoid raster compression if interactive fields are still needed: image-based compression can remove form fields and text layers. Preserve digitally signed originals, since editing can change their validation status.
- Are text and Vietnamese diacritics intact after reopening?
- Are checkboxes, dropdowns and radio selections correct?
- Have you distinguished OCR from form creation?
- Have you kept the source and checked the recipient's format requirements?
